Reclaiming Heritage
Chanco Prototype, Chile
The Chanco Project was our first full scale prototype where we could test the use of reclaimed materials in terms of the performance of the building system, the acceptability by the local communities and the feasibility of the proposed, within range of the current housing policy.
The work began by the deconstruction of an existing house just outside the Typical Zone of Chanco, no longer inhabitable due to the damages suffered during the earthquake and due for demolition after the appropriate evaluation.
Proposed plan and sections. The prototype is one segment of a staged construction that allows the owners to extend their house as desired.
