Reclaiming Heritage
Chanco Community Workshops, Chile
After the prototype was completed and resisted a second earthquake in 2012, community workshops were implemented in order to evaluate the social acceptance of the techniques and materials applied in the prototype. These workshops where financed by TIBES Stipendium / Bund Deutscher Architekten Berlin and where specially designed for the attendees, who where mostly not related to the field of construction.
An exhibition with information on reconstruction alternatives and samples of materials used in the prototype was used as a base for group discussion and as an introduction to other activities thought to compile information on the appropriateness of our proposal.
During the workshops it was clear that the community was ready to accept both the design and material reclamation as a way for continuity in their local and common identities.
