Reclaiming Heritage
Chanco Heritage Reconstruction Manual
The reconstruction manual follows on from the research compiled in Casona de Chanco and is designed to support self-construction efforts, which are the most common type of repairs in the area. It argues for heritage preservation and provides documentation on traditional construction and possibilities of seismic reinforcement. A series of ideas and concepts are compiled that might help to better repair and adapt existing buildings, based on two specific case-study proposals in Chanco.
The manual is designed to be as accessible and horizontal as possible, bearing in mind that most users are not architects or builders and usually find technical information difficult to understand. The graphics chosen and the way to transmit information aims for direct practice trying to justify proposals, thus promoting critical understanding. The efficiency of this style and form could be consulted to the community during the investigation process.
